About Homeopathy
Homeopathy is derived from two Greek words "homoeos" meaning similar and "pathos" meaning suffering. Translated literally, it means "similar suffering". It is a system of medicine propounded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, a little over 200 years ago. It is the science of using diluted substances to create remedies which will offer a balance in the body. There are thousands of homoeopathic medicines but before a remedy can be chosen for an individual, a case history must be taken and the whole person (physical, mental and emotional) must be assessed. A remedy is then selected based on the "symptom picture."
A "symptom picture" is a list of symptoms that arise when a diluted homeopathic substance is taken by a healthy person. When a similar symptom picture arises in an unhealthy person, the remedy can be identified. For example: when ingested by a healthy person, cinchona bark (China) produces symptoms that are very similar to that of malaria. Therefore, when a person has true symptoms of malaria, cinchona bark can be used (in homoeopathic form) to alleviate or reverse, the symptoms. This method of healing is referred to as "like cures like" and is the basis for homoeopathy.

Homeopathic remedies (also called homeopathics) are a system of medicine based on three principles:
- Like cures like - For example, if the symptoms of your cold are similar to poisoning by mercury, then mercury would be your homeopathic remedy.
- Minimal Dose - The remedy is taken in an extremely dilute form; normally one part of the remedy to around 1,000,000,000,000 parts of water.
- The Single Remedy - No matter how many symptoms are experienced, only one remedy is taken, and that remedy will be aimed at all those symptoms.
Similar principals forms the basis of conventional allergy treatment, where the allergic substance is given in a small dose, and in vaccines where an impotent form of the virus is given to bolster the immune system against that particular virus.
