Some Helpful Info & Tips

The space

Our studio space is located in Danu Health Centre in Bridgeland, Calgary.  Our studio space is approximately 500 square feet in size and is finished with low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint, cork flooring and beautiful woodwork pieces.  All our woodwork pieces are made with lots of love from reclaimed wood and have a wonderful story.

We have three individual rooms available for changing before and after class.  However, we suggest coming to class in your yoga wear when possible.

What to wear?

We suggest you wear clothes that you can comfortably stretch your arms overhead and take a lunge (wide leg stance) in.  A top that is slightly fitted or that you can tuck in to your shorts or pants is recommended to avoid your top moving in certain postures.  You may find wearing layers useful to keep your body temperature ideal for you during class.

What to bring?

We suggest you bring the following:

  1. Your yoga mat.
    • If you do not own a mat, we have mats for rent and eco-mats for sale in our store.
  1. Water for after class.
    • Some yoga practices do not recommend drinking water during class.  If you are feeling parched or dehydrated in any of our classes, please have a drink of water.  We have water available at the studio for purchase if you forget your water bottle.
  1. A towel or fabric mat if you find sweating through your hands and feet affects your yoga practice.
    • A small hand towel placed beneath your palms can help absorb the sweat from your hands and maintain your hand position in postures such as downward dog and plank.
    • A yoga rug or yoga towel placed on top of your yoga mat may also be helpful.
    • If you still need help dealing with a slippery mat, please ask us for other suggestions.

Studio Etiquette

We suggest you arrive 15 minutes before class if you need to change before class.  Please arrive 10 to 5 minutes before class to sign in and allow your self to get settled.  We understand that some days you may be running late for class.  If you arrive within 5 minutes of the class start time we can accommodate you.

If you are later than 5 minutes, we suggest you enjoy a warm drink at the nearby Heartland Café or Starbucks and come to the next class or enjoy one of our complimentary teas and peruse our retail space.  If there’s no following class, go home and relax.  There are always more yoga classes tomorrow!

How to Clean Your Yoga Mat?

We suggest wiping down your mat after class to keep your mat clean and healthy.  To clean your new or not-so-new yoga mat we suggest you combine three parts water to one part detergent or environmentally friendly cleaner or white vinegar.  Using too much detergent or cleaner in your mix will reduce the stickiness of your mat.

If you are giving your new mat its first cleaning, follow the instructions given with your mat.  Often soaking your mat in the bathtub or washing it in the washing machine is suggested.  Be sure to use minimal detergent!

We provide a mat cleaner in our studio space to clean your mat after class and have a fantastic mat cleaner that is locally made available for sale in our retail space.
